Fire Damaged House in Citrus Heights

A kitchen fire surprised the cook in this Citrus Height home. The vinyl blinds, foam backed chairs, and plastic toys in the adjoining room released billowing black smoke and soot throughout the house. The fire damage was nominal, but the coating of soot created a significant problem for the restoration crew from SERVPRO of Citrus Heights / Roseville. We wiped down all hard surfaces with dry sponges and then used wetting agents. These steps prepared many of the walls for a paint primer before a finished coat could be applied. Meanwhile, ozone machines helped to capture and eliminate airborne and crevice hiding odor molecules. A thermal fogging, inconvenient to the residents, but necessary to remove the remaining odors. Masking of smells would not have been a professional option. Box fans and air movers helped to vacate the treated interior. We measured the indoor air quality (IAQ) until reasonable levels were reached. Then the fun began with the remodeling of the kitchen and this bathroom.
