Citrus Heights has seen lots of low temperatures. This could mean potential pipe breaks. Water is a liquid form but when it gets too cold outside, water freezes and expands. Whether your pipes are plastic or metal they can possibly break.

Most commonly swimming pool supply lines, outdoor hose bibs and water sprinkler lines are at high risk. Pipers in unheated interior areas such as attics, garages, or crawl spaces. Pipes that run against exterior walls are also at risk.

You can, however, take some steps to help prevent your pipes from freezing or worse, breaking. It is best to add insulation to your home. This will help keep your home, including the attic and crawl spaces, at warmer temperatures. You can also install products designed to keep your pipes warm, such as pipes sleeves.

Always identify the locations of shutoff valves so that you are prepared to stop the flow of water as soon as possible when a pipe bursts.
